There is now even more reason to hate on that terrible 2015 Fantastic Four movie.
A new report from EW reveals director Josh Trank was at one point attached to head a standalone Star Wars spinoff about Boba Fett.
In fact, the report states Trank and Lucasfilm were so close to revealing the film was in pre-production that Trank was slated to make an appearance at the Future Filmmakers panel at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim in 2015 before he abruptly pulled out. Trank was supposed to appear alongside Gareth Edwards, director of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, to show off a teaser to the film before he left the project.
So why did he bail? Trank was reportedly upset over his experience creating Fox’s Fantastic Four and the negative backlash it received.
A standalone Boba Fett film would be a blast (pun intended). The Mandalorian bounty hunter is one of the most iconic characters in the Star Wars universe, and the fact Disney and Lucasfilm were seriously considering it means it can’t be completely dead in the sarlaac pit, er, water.
Here’s to hoping it resurfaces after the latest slate of Star Wars films and spinoffs, including Rogue One, Episodes VIII, IX, and the Han Solo project.
