Altered Beast, Streets of Rage getting TV and film treatments

Rise from your grave

In what must be a sign of the end of times, Sega franchises Altered Beast and Streets of Rage are being developed for film and television.

Sega’s production arm, Stories International is partnering with production company Circle of Confusion to develop “filmed entertainment adaptations” of classic Sega franchises, with Altered Beast and Streets of Rage being developed first.

Agreements are also in place to create adaptations of other classic Sega games including Shinobi, Golden Axe, Virtua Fighter, House of the Dead, and Crazy Taxi.

Both studios announcing the news with excitement this week:

“These are some of the most well loved SEGA games,” said Circles of Confusion’s Lawrence Mattis. “We are thrilled to be working with Stories to adapt them into major film and television franchises.”

“With Lawrence and his team at Circle of Confusion, we are beyond excited to work alongside them to develop and produce these projects,” Said Stories CEO Tomoya Suzuki. “We look forward to seeing the Centurion from ‘Altered Beast’ rise from his grave, and the ‘Streets of Rage’ heroes Adam, Axel and Blaze fight to take their city back on a screen near you.”

Circle of Confusion has produced hit shows like “Fear the Walking Dead,” “Powers,” and currently partners with David Engel, who executive produced “Straight Outta Compton.”

No word yet on when exactly these adaptation will release.
