Top 5 Games to Play During the Holiday Break

This year, show your family love, hospitality, and a set of VR goggles!

It’s safe to say, the game catalog available this year has been pretty abundant. From VR goggles to “nostalgia goggles”, the gaming industry did not disappoint.

You might be asking yourself, “How do I survive the holidays with so many games and so little time to enjoy them?” Fear not! While you and your family might have different ideas about yuletide joy, this might be the best year in ages to get the whole clan together around the warm, crackling entertainment center, and dive into some amazing games that everyone can enjoy. We took the liberty of boiling everything down to only the choicest cuts.

These are the top five games to play during your holiday break:

5) NES Classic

Assuming you were one of the lucky few that managed to get their hands on an NES Classic (or maybe Santa has one waiting for you under the tree), you would be remiss not to sit around with your cousins and siblings to bang out some old school ‘Mario’. With a library of 30 classic Nintendo titles, you can return to the years when your family wasn’t fighting over the last drumstick, but instead fought over who gets Bo Jackson in ‘Tecmo Bowl’!

4) Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3

Made available to download earlier this month, bash and brawl with your loved ones in the full HD 1080p remaster of ‘Marvel vs Capcom 3’. Bringing back the 3v3 onslaught of champions from both the Marvel universe and the world of Capcom, the fun brutality will make you rediscover your love for the series before the release of ‘Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite’, slated for 2017.

3) Destiny

If you’re looking for a massive holiday-centric event to throw into the gaming mix this year, you might want to dive into ‘Destiny’. Most recently, they threw a big Halloween bash called “Festival of the Lost”, which came with special trick-or-treat based events, new shaders, sparrows, etc. Keeping that momentum, they will now be featuring their yuletide extravaganza known as “The Dawning”. The Dawning boasts the triumphant return of sparrow racing, along with a new line of sparrows, shaders, quests, and an entirely new gear set for all classes, including armor and weapons. The Dawning will run from December 13th-January 3rd.

2) PlayStation VR

While not technically a game, the PSVR headset does offer some cool things…

With the burgeoning market for virtual reality evolving into something more and more accessible to the public, PlayStation VR is an example of the many advancements in the technology that don’t require any kind of custom built PC or $800 VR set-up. With an ever expanding library of virtual titles like ‘Batman: Arkham VR’ and ‘Eagle Flight’, as well as previously released games compatible with the system like ‘Star Wars: Battlefront’ and ‘Hatsune Miku’, you can impress your whole family with the immersive VR experiences available. Just be sure not to throw grandma into ‘Until Dawn: Rush of Blood’ without fair warning…don’t be that guy!

1) Overwatch

Probably the most anticipated holiday event on the way belongs to ‘Overwatch’. Already one of the best games to release this year, the addictively fun first-person shooter from Blizzard has not been shy about keeping fans in the holiday spirit since its release. The most recent Halloween event, as well as the big “Summer Games” event which focused on the 2016 Olympics, gave the community a reason to keep playing and grinding for the extensive line-up of goodies and skins to show off throughout the year. Blizzard is promising a lot for all the good little boys and girls out there who have been itching with anticipation, but they’ve held firm to their “no peeking” policy, meaning we all have to wait until the event starts to see what we’re getting. Overwatch’s Holiday Event begins December 13th!
