Rumor: Scalebound canceled

Oh no.

Sources across the gaming industry are backing claims that the highly anticipated game from Microsoft and PlatinumGames has been canceled.

Update: Scalebound officially canceled.

According to reports from insiders, Microsoft and PlatinumGames have parted ways. In light of their split, Scalebound's development has been put in a perilous situation and might be canceled. These reports have been supported by Eurogamer and Kotaku.

Details specify that the game ran into trouble back in Fall 2016 when PlatinumGames forced senior developers on Scalebound to take a break for the game's "heavy workload." The developers returned to the project after their month-long break, but at that point, the game was behind schedule. In addition to that, issues with the game engine and overdue deadlines further pushed the decision to cancel the game.

It is unclear whether the game will be resurrected by Platinum or will outright be thrown into the bin. Microsoft has stated that information on the game will come "soon."

Back in June 2014, Microsoft and PlatinumGames revealed Scalebound, a game that quickly became one most anticipated Xbox exclusive games for 2016. Two years after the reveal in January 2016, PlatinumGames announced the decision to delay the game to 2017 in order to "bring to life all the innovative features and thrilling gameplay experiences" that the developers had planned.

Summer 2016 brought us another glimpse of the game that began development in 2013, but other than a quick look at the gameplay, we didn't hear much else on the game.
