If you grew up playing games in the 90's, chances are you've got an affinity for pixel graphics, difficulty, and 2-D side-scrolling action. A lot of indie games pay homage to games like these, Shovel Knight being the prime example of this. If you're going through withdrawal, looking for a game in this style, then you might want to check out Alwa's Awakening.
You play as Zoe; a heroine sent from another world to bring peace to the land of Alwa. Your main tool is your Magic Staff which helps you traverse the land and master combat. Alwa's Awakening is going full old school by not giving players and waypoints, forcing them to explore and rely only on their wits and willingness to explore the environment.
Here's a list of features you can find in the game per an official Press Release:
- A challenging NES-inspired adventure game
- Use the magic staff to solve puzzles and defeat enemies
- Find and unlock upgrades to your items and abilities
- Explore a large interconnected map in true 'Metroidvania' style
- A soundtrack consisting of over 25 8-bit tracks.
Alwa's Awakening releases exclusively on PC on February 2nd, 2017.
