Kevin Smith is working on a new Jay and Silent Bob film; Clerks 3 and Mallrats 2 are cancelled

They're striking back.

Kevin Smith has made a lot of movies and two of his most iconic characters come from some of the earliest movies of his career. Of course, we're talking about Jay and Silent Bob. The two lovable but shady illegal goods salesmen appeared as side characters in Kevin Smith's first film, Clerks. They appear in a number of Smith's films doing various things and even got their own solo film in 2001.

The two characters will return in the very near future with Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith playing their respective parts. Smith announced the new film on his Instagram after revealing he finished the script for the film which is simply titled "Jay and Silent Bob Reboot" (probably a working title).

The film will follow the two characters on their journey to Hollywood where they will attempt to stop a reboot of the old "Bluntman and Chronic Movie" they despise so much. The film will be a satirical take on the industry Smith works in and will fire shots at all the reboots and remakes Hollywood can't stop churning out.

Smith also revealed that Clerks 3 and the sequel to Mallrats are no longer in development after some hurdles. One of the main characters of Clerks 3 dropped out and the Mallrats sequel was going to be a TV show, but no network would pick it up. But hey, at least we have Jay and Silent Bob!

Miramax is already satisfied with the idea for the new Jay and Silent Bob film and they're hoping to begin shooting this summer which would presumably see the film release in 2018.
