Rogue One Director: One of Star Wars Coolest Planets Was Named After a Coffee Scew-up

Mustafar Roasters? Tatooinebucks?

Sometimes, naming something you've created is the hardest part of the creative process. You made a planet, you've put characters on it, you've planned out how it will play a role in the film… Now, what should it be called?

This was likely something Gareth Edwards thought about while in line at what we might assume was a Starbucks, or another coffee chain. Speaking at the SXSW Film Festival is Austin, Texas, Edwards revealed that Scarif, the beach-themed, battle of Normandy-style planet in Star Wars: Rogue One was actually named after a naming incident at said coffee shop.  "I must have said, 'It's Gareth,' and they wrote 'Scarif,'" he explained (via THR).

This makes us wonder whether or not the barista who misheard Gareth Edwards' name is aware that he or she inadvertently named a planet in Star Wars: Rogue One.
