Overwatch has been very successful over its nearly one year of being live. Since its launch, we've had three new characters, new gameplay, new skins, events and a bunch of rebalancing. But what about maps?
Since its launch, there have only been two maps added to the game. But Game Director Jeff Kaplan has recently shared some news on that subject over at the Overwatch forums.
"We currently have 3 maps in development, all past the initial playtesting phase that are “standard” maps (QP/Comp). While something could always change, all 3 of those are looking likely for a release this year."
He also goes on to mention three "non-standard maps in development" which won't go into the quick-play roster or competitive modes. They will likely be in arcade play mode, however. Lastly, Blizzard is also conducting a "few other experiments", which coming from Blizzard can only be exciting news. All of these updates have been free of charge and don't seem to be slowing down anytime soon.
