God of War 4 Takes Place “In A Time Well Before the First Vikings”

Kratos takes to the land of the ice and snow.

God of War 4 was a huge surprise to those at E3 2016. Not because people didn't expect another God of War , but because it no longer took place in ancient Greece. We didn;t know exactly where or when it took place, but we had some clues. But now we know.

From the context in the original reveal video, we knew it was somewhere in Norse mythology, especially with the appearance of Loki and Fenrir. One exceptionally curious fan took to Twitter to ask Cory Barlog, Creative Director of SIE Santa Monica, a question about certain appearances in the game.

So… pre-Vikings? At least Barlog has promised a gory time. "I like everything to serve the vision/story/world. I don’t see GOW as gore for the sake of gore. It just takes place in a very violent time."
