We are officially one month away from the world's largest event for video and computer games, GamesCom, which takes place on August 22 through the 26. As such, developers and publishers from around the world are preparing to show off their big titles for the end of the year, or in the coming years (i.e. 2018, 2019).
One such company is THQ Nordic, the publisher who now owns the Darksiders IP and is set to publish the upcoming Battlechasers, is already teasing two new games that they'll show off.
The company released the following statement
"The first new announcement is a brand new original IP. This open world RPG is set in a unique universe and will be a post-apocalyptic kung-fu fable.
"The second new announcement is a new installment of a well-known, mysterious and horrific IP."
While there's not a lot to go on here, it sounds like this new open-world IP is like a cross between Fallout and Jade Empire, where players will take control of a character who is well versed in kung-fu, but in a post-apocalyptic setting, not unlike the TV show Badlands on AMC. As for whether this game is 1st person or 3rd person, we obviously don't' know. It could be anything from an isometric, Diablo style game to a first-person experience. We'll know more in a month.
The other title, THQ Nordic says is a "well-known" IP, that is mysterious and horrific. After doing some quick research on the properties that the company has acquired over the past few years, the list of games that fall into the category of "well-known, mysterious and horrific" is short. If I had to guess, I'd say the game they are referring to would either be, PainKiller, a first person shooter that has sort of a DOOM vibe, with demons, skeletons, and monsters or possibly Black Mirror, a single-player adventure horror game.
On top of these two games that we haven't seen, expect to see more on the upcoming turn-based RPG, Battlechasers from acclaimed comic book artist Joe Madureira or "Joe Mad," who was also the creative director and inspired the look of the Darksiders games. Battlechasers will be available on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC and believe it or not, the Mac, later this year.
