Almost a year ago, DayZ finally left the Alpha stages of development and was considered to be in beta. Today, the team announced an update on their blog regarding the full release and an eventual console version, both in 2018.
DayZ has been in development for a long time now, often receiving flak for its long Early Access cycle, but it has still been in constant development, despite its long wait. Lead Producer Eugen Harton officially announced their plans moving forward.
"As soon as the PC BETA is headed in a way we like, we're still committed to bringing DayZ to Xbox, where we have a large community of gamers patiently (very patiently!) waiting for a truly hardcore online survival game. All of that will (and must) happen next year – meaning we're just about to start what could possibly be the most exciting year for DayZ so far. In short: DayZ will be out of Early Access next year, and we'll also finally deliver it to console players in 2018."
He refers to previous scheduling issues with the game's long development cycle but follows with, "Make no mistake: this commitment is done taking all of our previous scheduling mistakes into the account. We're serious about it."
So DayZ, the at-one-point pinnacle of open-world zombie survival is finally coming in full release and launching on consoles next year. Will it be enough to reinvigorate the once well-praised title? Be sure to check back with GameZone for an official release date when it's announced.
