Sea of Thieves Beta Extended; Making Up for Server Problems

Feel like Sea of Thieves ransacked your beta playtime? Don't worry, they're not real pirates, you'll get your time back!

The Sea of Thieves beta went live two days ago on Xbox One and PC, but it has encountered some server problems since then. Some players were unable to access the beta as a whole until today.

Seeing as they want everyone involved to experience as much of the game as possible, Rare has announced an extension to the game’s beta by two days. It will now end on Wednesday, January 31 at midnight PT/3 AM ET.

When the issues were still occurring, players were getting a message telling them that they were “too early” and being denied access to the beta. It has since been fixed, but the fix is taking longer than anticipated to reach all affected players, thus the reason for the extension.

As we’ve learned previously, the beta consists of a custom-crafted experience that specifically “offers a true taste of the pirate life” rather than dropping players into a part of the full game. This is intended to be an appetizer of sorts, to give players a taste of each part of the game. The closed beta, like the one back in December, is still only available to those who are part of the Sea of Thieves Insider Program and those who pre-ordered the game digitally.

Sea of Thieves launches for Xbox One and PC on March 20 and will be capable of cross-play between the platforms.
