Star Wars is getting “a few” TV series spin-offs specifically for Disney’s upcoming streaming service

Cha-ching.

Do you like Star Wars? How about some more Star Wars? How about even more Star Wars on top of that? If you’re somehow not concerned about an oversaturation of content in the near future for the brand, then you’ll be happy to hear Disney isn’t just working on one live-action TV Series, but “a few” according to Disney CEO Bob Iger during a quarterly earnings call (via Collider).

This reveal comes just a day after it was announced that Game of Thrones showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff would be helming their own series of Star Wars films on top of The Last Jedi director, Rian Johnson’s upcoming trilogy. These TV series spin-offs will be exclusive to Disney’s upcoming streaming service that they announced back in August of 2017.

“We are developing not just one, but a few Star Wars series specifically for the Disney direct to consumer app,” said Iger. “We’ve mentioned that and we are close to being able to reveal at least one of the entities that is developing that for us. Because the deal isn’t completely closed, we can’t be specific about that… I think you’ll find the level of talent … on the television front will be rather significant as well.”

There’s little doubt that Disney is pouring every resource they can into making a competitive product with their streaming service, as there is some serious cash to be made in that space.

In other Star Wars news, the first teaser trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story finally made its debut during the Super Bowl, with only a few months to go until release. The movie hits theaters in May.
