French games publisher Ubisoft has surprisingly joined the recent bandwagon and actually revealed a new title in their popular historic execution franchise, Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey after recent leaks started spreading online.
Just yesterday French gaming website Jeuxvideo reported that they got their hands on merchandise for the new game. A keychain in form of a historic Greek helmet with the new game’s title. This was enough to get the ball rolling online however, especially since only a day prior Bethesda revealed a new Fallout game in a surprise early manner.
It looks like Ubisoft, similar to Bethesda, did not want to keep rumors and speculations go wild and decided to take the reins into their own hands by putting an official word out. And so they did. Not even a day after Jeuxvideo leaked Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, Ubisoft put out a tweet through the official Assassin’s Creed twitter account.
Information – similar to Fallout 76 – is very, very light. Indeed, the tweet merely consists a small message “See you at E3!” and of a 5 second video showing a likely Greek soldier kicking an enemy off a cliff. Ending with a fade-in of the new game’s title, Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey. If “Odyssey” didn’t already give it away, this obvious homage to 2006’s cult action movie 300 (This is Sparta!) leaves little doubt about the setting. Antic Greek it likely is.
Despite this news, not much else besides the name and general location is known at this point. Who will you play as? What time period exactly it will take place in? How or whether it will tie in with the latest Assassin’s Creed: Origins. An interesting way to reveal a new title and simultaneously create excitement for Ubisoft’s press conference at E3 2018.
It has been a crazy few days with leaks and shortly thereafter publishers confirming and officially announcing new titles, just to ask the fans to stay excited until further and proper reveal of their new games at E3 which is just around the corner.
