The long-awaited indie action-adventure game Below has received a surprise release date. After many years of development and delays, the once-Xbox One indie darling is finally coming out this December 14. Below will be available on PC and Xbox One. Check out the launch date trailer!
We have to go way back to the year 2013 when the current-gen consoles were still highly anticipated pieces of tech and platform holders were ramping up their PR efforts to create excitement for the imminent launch of their new gaming systems. Microsoft arguably did a horrible job at convincing customers of their original vision for the Xbox One, but amidst the overwhelming negativity there were some unexpected gems.
Among the small list of exclusive titles Microsoft chose to promote their console, there was also Below. An untypical game for the Xbox brand. No AAA blockbuster or shooter. Instead, audiences were greeted with a charming and moody indie games Microsoft. Ironically, by this sheer uniqueness Below managed to stand out among the games lineup back then.
Sadly, unlike the other games it was presented along, Below’s development didn’t go according to plan. After not achieving its first release window of 2015, it slowly started to look like fans would have to wait quite a bit to get their hands on the top-down roguelike.
It came even worse however, when in 2016 Below was delayed again. This time indefinitely. A major blow for gamers who already waited three years. Today, out of nowhere, developer Capybara Games shared the imminent launch of Below. And it’s much sooner than anyone would have thought. On December 14th, players on the Xbox One and PC will finally be able to play one of the longest-awaited games of the generation.
Once a timed-exclusive for the Xbox One, now Below will release day-and-date on the PC as well. No word has been given about ports for the PS4 and Nintendo Switch but seeing the track-record of the developer and extremely long development time and thus costs, we wouldn’t be surprised to see them coming in the future.
