Fantastic Build-Engine FPS Ion Fury by 3D Realms is out now

Time to kick ass and chew bubblegum

3D Realms is celebrating the full release of their highly-acclaimed retro-FPS Ion Fury. The game is available now on Steam and GOG after having launched in Early Access last year. Watch the sweet launch trailer here!

Fans of old-school first-person shooters are experiencing a renaissance of the genre in recent years. After the godfather of the genre id Software kickstarted this movement with the excellent reboot of the OG shooter Doom in 2016, we have witnessed many indie developers embracing the return to the good old days of run-and-gunning. Titles like Dusk, Amid Evil and Wrath: Eon of Ruin are welcomed with open arms by fans of the genre who have grown sick of the industry trend towards realism.

One of these fresh titles that rely on the design principles of yesteryear is Ion Fury. The game stands tall among the other games by being developed under the watchful eyes of the genre veterans 3D Realms themselves. First launched on Steam Early Access early last year, the game is now fully complete and available for Steam and GOG users.

Ion Fury laughs at the idea of mandatory checkpoints and straight paths through shooting galleries. But, just because this is a true old-school first-person shooter doesn’t mean we’ve ignored all the good new stuff the last two decades have brought. Headshots? Hell yeah. More physics and interactivity? You betcha. Widescreen, controller support, and Auto Saves? 3D Realms and Voidpoint have taken the best of both worlds and cooked it all into a bloody stew.

After a short legal kerfuffle with rock ‘n’ roll legends Ion Maiden, the game’s title was changed to Ion Fury shortly before the launch. While the name changed, the game is still awesome throwback goodness as ever. While PC gamers have long been able to enjoy the game, console users will get their version of the game sometime this year.

You can buy Ion Fury on Steam or GOG for just $24.99.
