Indie developer Nolla Games has announced the release date for their roguelite platformer. Noita will be launching on Steam Early Access on September 24th. Here’s the new trailer!
Fans of platformers, gorgeous pixel visuals and physics-based combat heed up! Noita could very well end up being one of the best games of the year for you. Pixel graphics have long become an overused art style, especially in the indie scene, but this is exactly where Nolla Games’ new title is shacking things up in an unusual way. While Noita is technically sporting the pixelated visuals aesthetics, the major focus on particle effects and physics make it look and feel like very few games in the genre.
The self-titled pixel-based physics of Noita are more than just debris behavior. Instead, it affects both the gameplay and visuals in a massive manner. The entire world can be destroyed or manipulated with the players various magical spells and weapons. This can end up being burning wood, exploding gasoline, electrifying water and more. Since each pixel is physically simulated, the effects of every attack are beautifully rendered and affect enemies. You can get a better view over this in the trailer above.
While Nolla Games might not ring a bell, it absolutely should as it consists of three acclaimed indie developers, who have created great indie games like The Swapper, Baba is You and Crayon Physics Deluxe.
Here’s the official game description:
- Pixel-based physics: Every pixel in the world is simulated. Burn, explode or melt anything. Swim in blood of your foes!
- Your own magic: Create new spells as you delve deeper into the caverns. Use your magic to crush your enemies and manipulate the world around you.
- Action rogue-lite: Death is permanent and always a looming threat. When you die, don’t despair, use what you’ve learned to get further on your next adventure.
- Procedurally generated world: Explore a unique world every time you play. Discover new environments as you adventure deeper.
