Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond unveiled as Oculus exclusive WWII FPS

New platform, Old war

Electronic Arts and Oculus have revealed a brand-new Medal of Honor title during this year’s Oculus Connect Keynote. This new entry into the legendary World War II shooter series is titled Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond and will only be playable as a Virtual Reality experience however. Furthermore, it is an exclusive to Oculus Rift devices. Watch the trailer here!

While the Medal of Honor franchise is pretty much dead and mostly remembered for its most recent subpar attempts at CODifying itself, the series is actually counted as a progenitor of the Call of Duty franchise. Long before Call of Duty established itself as the premier first-person shooter franchise, Medal of Honor became a major hit as a great WWII shooter. It’s a shame that when EA decided to reboot the franchise during last-gen, they clearly took way too much inspiration by CoD games. In the end, Medal of Honor (2010) and Medal of Honor: Warfighter ended up being painfully mediocre at best.

Now, the series is getting revived in a very unexpected way. Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond is a full VR game and thus, once again, it’s getting rebooted. There’s a huge positive that fans of the series should take notice of however. The developer of Above and Beyond are none other than FPS veterans Respawn Entertainment. The legendary developer who made the Call of Duty series the juggernaut it is today. After splitting from EA, they reformed as Respawn and went on to create other great shooters like Titanfall and Apex Legends.

So, while being a VR game, this new Medal of Honor game could very well become not only a return to form for the franchise but also a must-have VR experience on its own. Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond will be coming exclusive to the Oculus Rift platform next year.
