2K Games has announced the formation of a new in-house development studio called Cloud Chamber. Furthermore, this studio will be solely focusing on creating a brand-new entry into the BioShock franchise. You can read the entire press release here.
It has been a painful six years since gamers got to experience the last BioShock game with 2013’s BioShock Infinite. Despite the series leaving a huge mark on last-gen consoles, we never got a proper sequel. While PS4 & Xbox One received an anthology collection that features all three BioShock games together with their substantial DLCs, it simply wasn’t enough to keep the franchise in the minds.
“BioShock is one of the most beloved, critically praised and highest-rated franchises of the last console generation*. We can’t wait to see where its powerful narrative and iconic, first-person shooter gameplay head in the future with our new studio team at Cloud Chamber leading the charge.”- 2K President David Ismailer
Many expected the series to have died off, especially with series creator Ken Levine failing to deliver a long-awaited PS Vita port and movie adaptation. Now, seemingly out of nowhere, publisher 2K Games has announced the opening of a new internal studio whose goal is to create a new BioShock game. Cloud Chamber is the name of the newly established studio and the studio boss Kelley Gilmore pointed that they plan to “create yet-to-be-discovered worlds – and their stories within – that push the boundaries of what is possible in the video game medium”. An ambitious goal and just right up the alley for the previous games which were bets-known for exceptional writing and world-building.
With Cloud Chambers just being established, you should prepare yourself for a long wait until the game gets unveiled – let alone released. Still, with one entire generation without a BioShock game, what a few more years wait anyway?
