Metro Exodus had quite the fascinating launch in early 2019. As one of the earliest high-profile Epic Games Store exclusives, it had to bear the harshest of backlash from gamers. A real pity as neither the developer nor the game had anything to do with the exclusivity deal. It was purely a business decision between Epic and the game’s publisher Deep Silver. Thankfully, the game did still receive a nice reception thanks to it being a multiplatform release and it simply being the most ambitious Metro game to date.
Sam makes his way away from the Aurora in search of a way back to the USA, arriving at the remains of Vladivostok’s tsunami ravaged harbours, ruined industrial buildings, and crumbling residential districts. To complete his journey, Sam will discover that he needs every tactic he has learned so far to survive, as his surroundings prove to be far trickier than expected.
While not truly an open-world game, the hub-like game design and large maps felt like a breath of fresh air, especially compared to the linear two predecessors. But 4A Games was obviously thinking similar and now are detailing Sam’s Story. The upcoming DLC for Metro Exodus. It’ll feature the titular Sam who is navigating the dangerous remote city of Vladivostok, trying to return home to the USA. What’s even more interesting is that this DLC is going to be a survival-sandbox, confirming that Sam’s Story will offer the most open Metro gameplay to date.
Sam’s Story is set to come out on February 11th and is part of the Expansion Pass.
