Remember just a few months ago when PlayStation told us The Last of Us Part 2 was coming out at the end of February 2020? Then they tragically delayed it to May, absolutely heartbreaking.
Despite that, Naughty Dog has locked down an official rating from the ESRB meaning the game is pretty much content complete or nearly there. The Last of Us Part 2, as expected, has garnered an M for Mature rating but there are some interesting details. Courtesy of PlayStation’s official page for the post-apocalyptic survival game (via Dualshockers), we have the description for the game’s rating.
On top of the typical blood and gore, intense, violence, and strong language, The Last of Us Part 2 has been rated for nudity and sexual content. Now, nudity doesn’t always entail anything particularly sexual but it does seem that there will be a sex scene or something romantic/intimate within The Last of Us Part 2 thanks to the sexual content warning.
The ESRB’s official description for sexual content is as follows: “Non-explicit depictions of sexual behavior, possibly including partial nudity.” Ellie does seem to have a girlfriend in the sequel and based on some stuff we’ve seen they do get some alone time. If anyone was going to do a lesbian sex scene in a major AAA game, it would definitely be Naughty Dog.
Naughty Dog has been playing incredibly coy with The Last of Us Part 2 for YEARS so we likely won’t know until we play the game ourselves. All we really know about the game at the moment is that it’s set five years after the first game and follows a much more hardened, vengeful Ellie on a quest for revenge. We also got a glimpse of another unnamed playable character separate from Ellie in 2017.
Naughty Dog has stated that this is their biggest game to date which is part of the reason it has taken so long to release.
The Last of Us Part 2 releases on May 29th, 2020 exclusively for PlayStation 4.
