Yes, it’s a tragedy. Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed once again, this time from September 17th to November 19th. The delay comes despite the game actually being finished, all the systems are locked, story is in place, and so on. The game all in all is done.
That said, CD Projekt Red feels that Cyberpunk 2077 could use some more polish before pushing it out the door. They’ll use this two-month delay to fix any bugs and glitches before launch, making it the most polished experience as possible. One would have to imagine there must have been some pretty glaring bugs for them to delay it rather than just fix them in later patches.
“Those of you who are familiar with the way we make games know that we won’t ship something which is not ready. “Ready when it’s done” is not just a phrase we say because it sounds right. It’s something we live by even when we know we’ll take the heat for it,” said CD Projekt Red in a statement.
“At the time we are writing these words, Cyberpunk 2077 is finished both content and gameplay-wise. The quests, the cutscenes, the skills and items; all the adventures Night City has to offer – it’s all there. But with such an abundance of content and complex systems interweaving with each other, we need to properly go through everything, balance game mechanics and fix a lot of bugs. A huge world means a huge number of things to iron out and we will spend the additional time doing exactly that.”
CD Projekt Red also noted that there’s preview coverage of the game coming later this month as the press have been playing it. We do not have access to the game and plenty of others from big and small outlets were equally confused by this statement. We have no idea if someone slipped up or what but I guess we’ll find out on June 25th.
Cyberpunk 2077 will release on Xbox One, PS4, and PC on November 19th, 2020. Next-gen ports are still up in the air.
