Elite Dangerous shares on-foot planetary exploration coming with Odyssey

Frontier Developments’ awe-inspiring space-sim Elite Dangerous is getting a massive expansion next year with Odyssey. One stand-out addition is the ability to set literal foot on exoplanets which the developer has shown now for the first time in a nice new dev diary video. Check it out here!

The space-sim genre is well and alive, but you might be misguided in that belief if you only go by news about Star Citizen. The elusive game by genre veteran Chris Roberts has been in development for close to a decade and most talk about the genre is about it.

Disembark, Commander, and leave your mark on the galaxy in Elite Dangerous: Odyssey. Explore distant worlds on foot and expand the frontier of known space. Be the first to step out onto countless unique planets as you discover land untouched since time began. Elite Dangerous: Odyssey invites you to become a true pioneer.

A real shame, since Elite Dangerous has been playable for almost as long and offers the much-anticipated experience of space exploration to a tee. The successor to the iconic Elite games from the early 1980s is an outstanding space title that offers both combat and trade. Or just get your mind blown cruising at lightspeed through the Milky Way.

Nonetheless, the already outstanding game is getting a huge expansion early next year called Odyssey. Similar to No Man’s Sky and Star Citizen, a new layer of gameplay will be introduced by landing on planets and exploring them for valuable resources. Settlements and outposts await to be discovered.

Just like ore mining, players will have a good reason to land on planets and leave the security of their spaceships. Planets harbor unique alien lifeforms whose genes can be harvested and sold at space stations.

Odyssey aims to add more than just planets. Expanded multiplayer and social aspects, overworked and enhanced mission structures, and action-focused additions aim to elevate Elite Dangerous to the next level.
