Baldur’s Gate 3 finally available now on PC in Early Access

The Forgotten Realms are calling

After decades of wait, one of the granddaddies of the CRPG genre has made its glorious return. Baldur’s Gate 3 is at long last available on the PC. You can get in on Steam Early Access for $59.99. Check out the launch trailer below!

It has been a grueling 20 years since the last Baldur’s Gate concquered the PC gaming scene back in 2000. But despite that age, its popularity among fans always remained high. So high in fact that in 2016 an expansion was released. Can you think of any other game that achieved such a feat?

Still, with no true sequel for so many years, many succumbed to the thought that creating a Baldur’s Gate 3 was simply too big of a task for anyone. The series joined other ‘dead’ franchises that couldn’t produce a third entry like Half-Life or Left 4 Dead for the longest time.

Gather your party, and return to the Forgotten Realms in a tale of fellowship and betrayal, sacrifice and survival, and the lure of absolute power.

Mysterious abilities are awakening inside you, drawn from a Mind Flayer parasite planted in your brain. Resist, and turn darkness against itself. Or embrace corruption, and become ultimate evil.

Belgian RPG powerhouse Larian Studios took on the daunting task to bring back the series and deliver a formidable new entry. With the outstanding Divinity: Original Sin games under their belt, the developers already proved their proficiency in the CRPG genre.

Early impressions are rather good but it bears reminding that Baldur’s Gate 3 is far from feature complete just yet. Out in Early Access, the game at hand only contains the first act which still should give players roughly 25 hours of content.

Another point worth mentioning is that Larian decided to sell the game at full price right from that start. Early Access games usually are priced cheaper and get a price hike when completed. The developer’s reasoning is that Baldur’s Gate 3 simply is their biggest project to date.
