I’ve been waiting for some time to hear any tidbit of information regarding the Borderlands series. After all, the first game made a nice splash and was received well by gamers, so it only makes sense that a sequel would launch to capitalize and move the series forward. It’s taken a while, but according to Eurogamer, a source within Gearbox Software has confirmed the development of Borderlands 2.
Rumors about a Borderlands sequel have been circulating the internet for some time now, and gamers have certainly been hoping for some validity to these rumors. Of course, publisher 2K Games has been fairly quiet about it. Even Gearbox head Randy Pitchford has denied any and all existence of a Borderlands 2.
“I can tell you that myself and everyone at Gearbox LOVES Borderlands and we have been absolutely thrilled at the reception it’s gotten from our customers and the fact that it’s sold over four million units now,” stated Pitchford. “But we’ve only announced what we’ve announced. If we haven’t announced it, it doesn’t exist.”
Oh, Pitchford, you’re so secretive! Here’s hoping we do get an official announcement regarding Borderlands 2 straight from 2K Games in the near future. If the rumors are true, then you can expect Borderlands 2 to hit Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC sometime in 2012.
