Gears of War 3 officially released yesterday, and already people are clamoring for DLC. Let the rumors circulate, with the official release of Gears of War 3, came some awesome news for fans of post-launch DLC. When speaking with The Telegraph, Epic Games’ design director Cliff Bleszinski revealed that Gears will see story-driven DLC down the road.
“We have some DLC that’s coming up. We’ve confirmed we’ll be doing campaign DLC,” announced Bleszinski. “One thing I can tell you is that you’re not going to see Marcus or Dom or Cole in it. I believe that DLC should be unique and cool, like Lost and the Damned, Gay Tony, Mad Moxie’s Underdome Riot. All those kind of things. DLC’s the place where you play and have fun. So that’s one thing that’s an indication of where things may be going in the future.”
It’ll be interesting to see the patch Epic decides to take with the Gears series and Gears of War 3 DLC. Seeing as Gears 3 is the definitive end of their story-arc, Epic might use the DLC to expand upon the Gears universe and introduce new characters for future games or focus on some characters that received less attention.
Unfortunately, the story-driven DLC has no solid release date, but with a longer story than previous Gears games and an addictive multiplayer, Epic has some time.
