I don't like Call of Duty. I never have, and I never will. The military gameplay simply does not appeal to me, and I think the visual aesthetic is one of the most abysmal things I've ever seen. That's my opinion, and I'm entitled to it (contrary to many N4G dwellers).
That said, I understand exactly why so many gamers are drawn to Call of Duty. It's the top military FPS for a reason: it does what it sets out to do better than the competition, delivering a solid shooter in prime fashion. I dislike Call of Duty, but I'm not biased toward to it, and I get all the hype. I truly do.
Apparently, however, it seems gamers have taken to Metacritic to voice their disdain toward Modern Warfare 3. Yes, you read that correctly. As it turns out, people hate Modern Warfare 3. Honestly, I don't understand what all the bitching is about. We all knew from the beginning that Modern Warfare 3 wouldn't be some major overhaul for the series. Everyone had to expect a lot of the same tropes from Modern Warfare 2, just tweaked and updated to provide an optimal FPS experience.
These crazed fans have been throwing around low ratings, and as a result, Modern Warfare 3 currently holds scores of 2.7, 2.1, and 1.4 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC, respectively. The little buggers have even decided to call out reviewers, complaining about how the game is horrible and too similar to its predecessor.
GameZone's Robert Workman awarded the game an outstanding 9.5 out of 10, and several other reviewers have rated the game similarly. Honestly, I can't say I'm surprised. What I am surprised about, though, is the negative reaction the game has caused among fans. It's mostly weird because, as previously mentioned, no one was expecting much to change.
All I have to say is, I've been hating on Call of Duty before hating on Call of Duty was cool. Get your own gimmick, people!
