The topic of characters from Capcom’s Ace Attorney series of Nintendo DS (and now WiiWare) games has come up here and there throughout the development cycle of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars, and it seems that the idea hasn’t died yet. In fact, it seems more likely than ever now that it could happen.
That is, provided certain conditions are met.
The first, of course, relates to sales. Producer Ryota Niitsuma only recently revealed that if the game does well enough, they would like to add more characters through downloadable content.
However, even with that, there is something of a catch. Since Nintendo expanded the Wii’s memory options with its SD memory card solution, some games– most notably Guitar Hero titles– have gone on to offer downloadable content for the Wii. But it seems that a developer cannot simply just decide to do it; it would appear they require Nintendo’s blessing first.
With that said, Destructoid has learned that two characters which Niitsuma has his eyes on for such additions are Phoenix Wright of the Ace Attorney series, and Ingrid of Capcom Fighting Evolution.
Destructoid then pleads: “Nintendo, if you want to do something about your image with hardcore gamers, let Capcom do whatever they want with Tatsunoko Vs Capcom. It’s one of the few games to come out for the Wii that actually has some strictly PS3/360 fans wanting your console. Considering how much a lot of those people hate (not dislike, but hate) the Wii, that’s saying a lot.
