IGN.com, (June 27, 2002) – RCA has released the first wave of Xbox specific televisions meant to enhance the gaming experience.
The “Xbox Ready” television will include a new connection called the RCA VPORT, which promises to deliver the most spectacular picture quality and detail the Xbox can provide. Here is how RCA described their new technology:
This new connection takes advantage of the Xbox system’s ability to output component video signal levels, and feeds the signal through a single connection cable. In addition to an Xbox connection point, the jack also doubles as a second component video input. This allows users to simultaneously connect two devices with component outputs, such as a DVD player and satellite receiver or a DVD player and an Xbox.
Playing Kabuki Warriors while watching Rambo: First Blood with picture-in-picture (included in a few of the models) sounds like quite an intriguing way to spend my weekends.
RCA will offer eleven analog television sets that are each equipped with the VPORT technology. The eleven sets will come in 20, 27, 32, or 36-inch screen sizes and each will include Gemstar TV Guide technology. The televisions models, specs, estimated release dates, and prices are listed below:
36-inch models:
Model F36TF720: ($1,499, August) with TruFlat picture tube, twin-tuner picture-in-picture and digital 3-line comb filter.
Model F36718: ($1,049, July) with twin-tuner picture-in-picture, digital 3-line comb filter, Sound Logic audio leveler.
Model F36650: ($899, now) with digital 3-line comb filter, Sound Logic audio leveler.
32-inch RCA VPORT models include:
Model F32TF720: ($1,049, August) with TruFlat picture tube, twin-tuner picture-in-picture, and digital 3-line comb filter.
Model F32718: ($799, July) with twin-tuner picture-in-picture, digital 3-line comb filter, and Sound Logic audio leveler.
Model F32650: ($649, now) with a digital 3-line comb filter and Sound Logic audio leveler.
27-inch RCA VPORT models include:
Model F27TF720: ($649, August) has a TruFlat picture tube, twin-tuner picture-in-picture and digital 3-line comb filter.
Model F27TF700: ($599, August) features a TruFlat picture tube, digital three-line comb filter and Sound Logic audio leveler.
