Earlier this week, Bethesda issued a statement updating all fans with what they are working on in regards to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Following the Skyrim 1.2 patch released exactly one week ago, many users began reporting additional bugs like broken magic resistance, dragons flying backwards, and continued lag issues not only on the PS3, but recently on the Xbox 360.
While the most recent 1.2 update addressed the PS3 lag issues and fixed it for many, Bethesda has acknowledged that not everyone's latency issues were solved.
In a blog update today, Bethesda directed their post towards the Skyrim PS3 players. They wrote:
"While the 1.2 update fixed the long-term play issues for most PS3 users, we are aware that is not the case for some. We’ve been reaching out to a number of those users to collect save games, so we can take a look at their specific issues."
They did note that the issue was not caused by one thing, but "a combination of smaller ones that some folks are seeing, but others are not. Some seem to be the PS3 autosaving in the background (you can turn that off), some may be SPU AI updates, and some may relate to dynamic system memory allocation."
Unfortunately, these fixes are not in the current 1.3 update that was announced earlier this week and is currently is in final testing. They did promise, however, that the fixes will be in "future ones". The current Skyrim 1.3 patch is expected to release sometime this week for all platforms, become available for PC first and then hitting Xbox 360 and PS3 later in the week.
Bethesda has already confirmed, "After the holidays, we’ll continue to release regular updates for the game — through full title updates, as well as incremental “gameplay updates” to fix whatever issues come up along with rebalancing portions of the game for difficulty or exploits. We plan on having a lot of these, not just a few. Overall, you should expect updates to be hitting the PC and Steam earlier and more often, as that’s a process we control. Console updates will follow, as they must be certified and processed by those manufacturers."
Hopefully the fixes will be sooner, rather than later for the PS3 and Xbox 360. The current 1.3 patch is said to address a number of issues that have plagued users since the release of udpate 1.2. Among the fixes include magic resistance not calculating properly and the backwards flying dragon.
"We understand how frustrating it can be when your game is having issues, and we thank all of you for your continued feedback and patience. Rest assured we take your gameplay experience seriously and will continue working on this until it’s resolved."
Overall, Bethesda has to be pleased with how fans have reacted to the numerous bugs and glitches found in the game since release. Despite the bugs and flaws in Skyrim, fan reaction has been fairly positive and fans continue to remain loyal to Bethesda and future titles they release. Though, that may change if the 1.3 update doesn't solve many of the more serious bugs that prevent users from even playing or enjoying the game.
