Developer, and badass programmer, Markus "Notch" Persson confirmed his new game, 0x10c, will use the same price model that Minecraft used.
In other words, Mojang will release the game in an pre-alpha/alpha stage. Players can purchase the game at a usually lower price and help Notch "shape the game as it grows." Like Minecraft, the price of 0x10c will increase once it enters beta, and then increase to its final price once it's feature complete.
Currently the game is in "extremely early development". For the record, Minecraft was released as an alpha on May 17, 2009 before its final release on November 18, 2011.
When asked why he was charging for the game before it's finished, Notch responded, "Because it worked for Minecraft."
Indeed it did. To date, Minecraft has sold over 5.5 million copies.
