Sony officially announces God of War: Ascension for the PS3

After weeks of teasing, Sony has finally announced God of War: Ascension exclusively for the PlayStation 3.

Game director Todd Pappy confirmed the game on the officially PlayStation blog, confirming the game's existence, but not revealing much else except that its "the most ambitious God of War adventure in the series so far."

Judging from the teaser trailer on the site, God of War: Ascension looks as if it will serve as a series prequel.  The narration hints that the game will concern events before Kratos became the Ghost of Sparta, a time when "something other than rage consumed him.  A time when Kratos would break his blood oath to an unjust god."

That's about all the trailer hinted, but Pappy did confirm that a live stream event will "give you a glimpse of what's in store for God of War: Ascension."  During this event, Pappy will be answering questions about the game Tweeted to @PlayStation on Twitter about the game.  If you want your question answered, Tweet them by 3 pm PST this Friday (be sure to include #godofwarascension in your Tweet).  If your question is picked, they will send you a signed God of War: Ascension poster.

Tune in to PlayStation.Blog and God of War: Ascension on Facebook on Monday, April 30th at 8 am PST for the event.
