Assassin's Creed 3 is all about changing things up. We have a new setting, new time period, and new assassins protagonist with Connor. But one noticeable missing piece that's quite pivotal to the story of Assassin's Creed is Desmond. We really haven't heard much about him until now.
Speaking to Zoom In.TV, creative director Alex Hutchinson confirmed Assassin's Creed 3 will have "more Desmond material than ever before".
"Desmond is a big part of the franchise and I think you're going to be happy if your fan because if you think about the storyline has always been building up Desmond to be an assassin," Hutchinson said.
"He gets these abilities in AC1. He gets the Apple in AC2. He learns to lead a group in AC Brotherhood," Hutchinson explained, "so we want to pay this off at this point. So there's a lot more Desmond material in Assassin's creed 3 than ever before."
"If you were interested in that storyline I think you'll be happy," he concluded.
Does this mean Desmond's journey will end? Just because Assassin's Creed 3 has more Desmond material, doesn't mean his story won't end. In fact Hutchinson, in the same interview, touched on the subject of closing off new storylines and beginning new ones.
"I truly believe we need to end things at some point," he said. This doesn't mean ending the franchise, but it does mean ending chunks of the story or character storylines."
"I think you'll be seeing more and more old storylines closed off and new storylines beginning," he teased.
Does this mean we'll see Desmond's storyline conclude in Assassin's Creed 3? Back in July, Hutchinson said, during a Ubisoft press conference, that at some point, "Desmond needs to end".
With "years worth of story" surrounding Desmond Miles, it is getting a little hard to keep track of his story, and even Hutchinson admitted that the franchise could continue without him.
So will this be the end for Desmond?
