So much for Rayman Legends being a Wii U exclusive title. Ubisoft today announced that the highly anticipated platformer will also be released for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. All three versions will hit store shelves in early September 2013. For the record, Rayman Legends was supposed to release for the Wii U this month.
“We heard from many Xbox and Playstation owners and Rayman fans who told us they really wanted to play Rayman Legends on their current system," said Geoffroy Sardin, EMEA Chief Marketing & Sales Officer at Ubisoft. ”We decided to give the fans what they wanted while at the same time broadening the audience exposed to this innovative and memorable game.”
Although this is a crippling blow in the short term for Nintendo, who was probably counting on the formerly-exclusive Rayman Legends to provide a boost in sales, the Wii U still has a good amount of promising exclusives including two new Mario games, a brand new Zelda game (and a remake of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker), and many more titles. With a future lineup like that, I doubt this announcement will cause any long-term sales problems for Nintendo. Unfortunately, February is now a dead month for the Wii U.
The Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Rayman Legends are being developed by Ubisoft Montpellier, the same team behind the Nintendo Wii U version. Although now coming to all consoles, there are still a few features that only the Wii U will offer, like the ability to control a character through the GamePad's touchscreen.
With Rayman Legends now being offered on Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii U, which version do you plan on buying?
