Ubisoft today revealed Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, the newest entry in their long-standing popular action-adventure franchise. The confirmation came in the form of four separate box art shots, none of which included the recently announced PlayStation 4.
As of right now, the only confirmed platforms that Assassin's Creed 4 will be heading to are Xbox 360, PS3, PC, and the Wii U. I do expect that to change come Monday, when the first details of Black Flag will be revealed. I find it hard to believe that the game, which is likely to release later this year, will ignore next-gen platforms. The PlayStation 4 is set to release during the holiday 2013 season which wouldn't be long after the release of Black Flag. Ubisoft would be wise to add Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag as a next-gen launch title. We've yet to hear anything official about the next-Xbox.
In all likelihood, Ubisoft will probably handle AC4 in a similar way to what they are doing with Watch Dogs. That is, release it on current-and next-gen consoles. Watch Dogs was confirmed for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC, but at the Sony press event it was announced that the game would also be available on PlayStation 4. A press release later on confirmed a Wii U release as well. I expect Assassin's Creed 4 will be handled in a similar fashion. Maybe they just didn't announce it because we haven't yet seen any box art for the PlayStation 4.
Ubisoft is expected to announce many of the game's details on Monday, March 4. Hopefully we hear something regarding a PS4 release.
