Developers discuss the PS4 DualShock 4 controller

Sony has released a new video in which developers from across the company have come together to discuss their favorite features of the new DualShock 4 controller. With Sony having not yet shown the actual PS4 hardware, a lot of the attention is on the system's new controller which has managed to undergo several changes and additions while still retaining the same feel of the DualShock.

Some of the features discussed include the new Light Bar which tracks the position of the controller in the room, even if there are multiple players. Using the built-in tracker, the PS4 will recognize if you switch places with someone in the room and adjust the order of the split screen accordingly. They also talk about the multitouch Touchpad, built-in speaker, and the very intriguing "share" button which allows you to record your gameplay, create a video or screenshot, and share it instantly.

Interesting that Sony has chosen to release this video today — just a day after Microsoft announced its May 21st event in which "a new generation" Xbox will be revealed. Sony may have gotten the jump with its own PS4 unveiling event in February, but it doesn't look like the company is willing to share the spotlight with Microsoft — or lose any of the ground it might have gained with the head start. Nobody puts PlayStation in the corner.

Let the next-gen console war begin, folks.
