A campaign for Deus Ex Machina 2 — not to be confused with Deus Ex — has popped up on crowdfunding site Kickstarter for £64,000, or nearly $100,000.
The proposed title is a sequel to British designer Mel Croucher's interactive-movie computer game from 1984 (for the ZX Spectrum and later Commodore 64), which was an early attempt to merge games and art. The original Deux Ex Machina tracks the life of a "defect" in "the machine." This new game features the voice work of Sir Christopher Lee as The Narrator, among other actors.
Developer Automata Source, which Croucher founded back in 1977, has confirmed PC and Mac versions built with the Unity engine. The crowdfunded money will help complete prototypes for iOS and Android releases, among other needs. The team has listed stretch goals as well, including a director's cut for the Oculus Rift virtual-reality headset and even a movie.
