Keiji Inafune plans on making Yaiba sequels, believes spin-off can hold its own

At E3, we got a chance to talk with Keiji Inafune, the famed mastermind behind the Mega Man and Dead Rising games. Since leaving Capcom, he has started his own company, Comcept, and developed a Ninja Gaiden spinoff titled Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z. So what is Yaiba? Picture a super cel-shaded, hyper stylized Ninja Gaiden with zombies. Awesome!

Turns out Inafune has always wanted to create or work on a Ninja Gaiden game. However, he didn't just want to make a Ninja Gaiden game, he wanted to make his Ninja Gaiden game. Teaming up with Tecmo Koei, that dream can now be a reality.

In the interview, we got a chance to ask what the future holds for Yaiba, and whether there are any possible sequels in store. This is what he had to say:

“A sequel, of course, always depends on the users and the players and how they react. But of course we are thinking that that would be a fun thing to have. We’re looking for this, for Yaiba to be his own fun and interesting character and really make him shine with this game on his own. And we hope that we can make him, we can stand him up as a character well enough to be on his own and maybe even influence things in the Ninja Gaiden series, with Hayabusa as well, so that they can both sort of play off each other. But of course that all goes back to how the players react to the game.”

For those that got to experience Yaiba at E3 or watched some gameplay clips, this is certainly awesome news as the games not only looks phenomenal (for a current gen game) but also plays fantastically.

You can look forward to getting your hands on Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z in early 2014
