Good guy Activision has come to the Wii U's aid, announcing six new titles that will be released for Nintendo's struggling system this fall. Headlining the lineup is Call of Duty: Ghosts, but other games announced include Skylanders SWAP Force, two Angry Birds games, SpongeBob SquarePants: Plankton's Robotic Revenge, and Wipeout Create & Crash. It's not the most impressive lineup of games, but for a system starved for third-party titles, it'll have to do.
"As we have said before, we're committed to doing everything we can to support the Wii U, which is why we're excited to be bringing some of the most popular entertainment franchises in the world to the platform this year," said Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg. "The Call of Duty franchise continues to be one of the most powerful forces in gaming and Skylanders continues to enchant new fans around the world. Our studios have been hard at work creating brand new immersive experiences perfectly suited to the Wii U platform and our fall lineup has something for everyone."
Call of Duty may be the AAA blockbuster of the bunch, but Skylanders SWAP Force, Angry Birds Trilogy, and Angry Birds Star Wars all have an already established audience which could help Nintendo move some Wii U systems this holiday season. I'm not too familiar with children's television these days, but I assume SpongeBob SquarePants is still popular among the kids; the game will follow SpongeBob and friends as they attempt to locate the hidden keys for the Krusty Krab safe stolen by Sheldon J. Plankton and his legion of evil robots.
