Metal Gear Solid 5 characters ‘erotic’ to push cosplay and figurines

Hideo Kojima has been pressuring Yoji Shinkawa, the art director on Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, to make the game's character designs "more erotic." He hopes this will encourage fan cosplays and push figurine sales.

"Recently, I've been making characters this way. I create the setting thoroughly, how he/she spent early life, name style, favorite phrase, fashion, action to stand the character out," he said.

"You are able to read the character by observing his/her silhouette, look, and the way he/she walks."

Kojima will reveal details about the game's female character, Quiet, on Friday for any cosplayer hopefuls — but she may be tough to reproduce.

He said, "The character I asked Yoji to make it more erotic, this one may not be cosplayable."

Metal Gear Solid 5 is the next entry in the stealth-action series. It's planned for current and next-gen consoles.
