Poor sales of the Wii U and PlayStation Vita systems are the reason why Need for Speed: Rivals is skipping those two platforms.
"[Rivals] is going onto new hardware, and you have to work out where you focus your efforts," creative director Craig Sullivan told The Sixth Axis in an interview. "The 200 people working on this game are only capable of making so much, and doing so many different versions of the game, so we had to go with where we think the biggest audience will be for the game, and that's where we are."
Rivals is Gothenburg, Sweden-based Ghost Games' first title. It's working in partnership with Ghost U.K., which is the bulk of the staff from Criterion Games since new brand owner Ghost Games split the company in two in September.
The new Need for Speed, due out next month, uses the Frostbite 3 engine, which isn't available for Wii U or Vita.
Unfortunately, Ghost Games isn't the first developer to avoid the Wii U, at least. But the Vita isn't doing so hot, either.
