What all those PS4 power indicator lights mean

If there's one thing the PlayStation 4 doesn't lack, it's diversity in color. In the short span, I've owned Sony's new console, I've seen that sleek light, just off-center, go from blue to white to orange to white to — well, thankfully, it has never turned red. Point being, the PlayStation 4 light turns many different colors, but what do they all mean? Over in the PlayStation Knowledge Center, Sony has posted a clear and concise chart for each color and what it means:

Lights up PS4 power indicator blue then PS4 power indicator white Powering on
Lights up PS4 power indicator white Powered on
Lights up PS4 power indicator orange Standby mode
Turned off Powered off
Blinks PS4 power indicator red The PS4™ is overheating.
You should turn off the system, move it to a well-ventilated area, and wait until it has cooled down to use it

Basically, as long as your system isn't blinking red, you're in good shape.

However, there are new reports that the system can sometimes blink blue which is an indicator that results in  no audio/video output to the television and the console eventually powering off. Sony has acknowledged the issue, but has yet to diagnose an exact cause for the problem. They have, however, offered a troubleshooting guide to fix it if you do encounter the blue blinking light of death.
