Back in May of 2013, FromSoftware had a community contest for fans to design shields for the developers to put into Dark Souls II. Six shields were selected, one has appeared on the cover of the comic Dark Souls II: Into the Light, and two are be revealed right now. Come March 11th when the game is released, you’ll be able to find all of these bad boys somewhere in Drangleic.
The first one shown off is what FromSoft is calling the “Wicked Eye Greatshield.” Originally designed by Gabriel Verdon, this creepy shield is massive with numerous hand prints covering it. The flavor text says:
A greatshield with an unsettling design. Covered in the prints of countless hands. The true origin of this shield is unknown. No amount of polishing can clear its face of the mysterious hand prints.
The second shield shown off today, is the “Rebel’s Greatshield.” Originally designed by Gabriel Verdon, this shild shows a certainly loyalty to the rogue goddess of sin. The flavor text says:
Shield of the rebel Raime. Raime and Velstadt were known as the left and right-arms of the king, until their wills clashed, and Raime was deemed a traitor.
On top of these fan made designs appearing in game and the creators receiving a Dark Souls II collector’s edition, the blacksmiths over at Armédia are created real versions of each of these shields. That’s f@#$ing rad. Two more shields will be revealed on January 28th followed by the final two on January 31st. Keep an EYE out for them.
