Minecraft sells over 1 million copies on PS3

Over one million copies of Minecraft have been sold on PlayStation 3, Mojang announced today.

"That has to be some kind of record on PSN, no?" boasted Mojang's business developer Daniel Kaplan. Minecraft, despite being on just about every other platform imaginable, came to the PS3 late, having released on December 17, 2013.

"We are super grateful for the support and we are very thankful for your dedication and I hope you will like the future updates we have planned for you," Kaplan added.

Honestly, I don't think the game's success on PS3 should come as much of a surprise; Minecraft has become a hit on just about every platform it has released for. In December, Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition — released in May 2012 for the system — surpassed 10 million copies sold. Meanwhile, the original PC version has sold over 13 million copies, according to Mojang's own sales tracker.

Looking ahead, it's hard not to predict continued success for the game. Minecraft is still set to release for PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
