Unsung Story: Tale of the Guardians offers a unique twist on tactics combat

With only seven days left, it’s certainly time to back Unsung Story: Tale of the Guardians on Kickstarter if you haven’t yet – of course, only if you’re interested. This tactics RPG has Yasumi Matsuno, the mind behind Final Fantasy Tactics and Ogre Battle: Let Us Cling Together, on staff — so you KNOW s@#$ will be done right. FF Tactics is still my favorite game in the genre to date.

Unsung Story will offer a fresh take on the tactics combat you've grown to love. Your typical square grid has been removed. Instead, characters will stand upon a triangular grid system. Rather than stand in the middle, they will stand on the points giving them six directions to make actions towards.

Different attacks will be able to reach different targets depending where they exist on the map. So while a certain attack may only be able to reach an adjacent foe, your second attack may be able to reach the target behind someone adjacent.

Lastly, elevation also has an effect. If your character is higher up and uses a bow, you’ll be able to shoot further than someone who is at a lower elevation as you. This was huge in FFT and I’m glad to see it make a return.
