What do you do when you run out of new blockbuster games to butcher when turning them into movie? You turn to the classics. Apparently, Threshold Entertainment is partnering with The Tetris Company to develop a film inspired one of the least likeliest of games: Tetris.
Yup, the iconic game which we all grew up playing is getting a movie adaptation. I'm going to repeat that, Tetris is being turned into a movie.
What the actual f*ck?
According to today's announcement, Threshold will turn the legendary game — which sees players fit different shaped blocks together to form horizontal rows in an effort to clear them — into an "epic sci-fi" story. Who knew that all this time Tetris actually had a story.
"Everyone knows that Tetris is one of the best known, most beloved brands in the world," said Kasanoff. "What everyone doesn't know yet is this epic sci-‐fi story that we’re going to tell. That's what's really exciting."
“What started as a simple, computer puzzle game 30 years ago, today is part of our global consciousness, connecting people of all ages and backgrounds and feeding our innate desire to create order out of chaos,” says Henk Rogers, Managing Director of The Tetris Company. “We look forward to partnering with Threshold Entertainment to re-imagine that common experience and bring a spectacular new Tetris universe to the big screen for the first time. In this new universe, as you’ll soon find out, there’s much more to Tetris than simply clearing lines.”
So is the four-blocked straight piece the main protagonist?
