20th Anniversary PS4 selling for ridiculously crazy prices

Limited Edition PS4 sells for $15,000 on eBay

The extremely limited edition 20th Anniversary PlayStation 4, which sold out just minutes after becoming available for purchase, is now commanding ridiculously high prices over on secondhand sales websites like eBay.

The limited edition console was designed specially to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the original PlayStation which launched in Japan in December 1994. It comes in a retro-gray color similar to the original PlayStation, and even dons the old-school logo on it. The DualShock 4, PlayStation Camera, and vertical stand also come in a similarly colored gray.

Originally sold through Sony's website for $499, second-hand sellers lucky enough to snag one are now using its rarity to their advantage. The highest "buy it now" price on eBay that I've seen so far starts at a whopping $22,500. What I find truly fascinating is the audacity the seller has to ask for $25 shipping on top of that. Meanwhile, previous bidding wars for the rare console went as high as $15,000.

There's currently a number of these PS4 20th Anniversary Edition consoles available on the eBay market, but the highest price I've seen with actual bids on it is $1,715.18. Pretty crazy considering the actual console only sold for $499 from Sony.

While it would be neat to own one of these rare consoles, I can't see myself paying over the original price for one — especially when you know that a few years down the road we'll be getting a PS5 or some other "ultra rare limited edition" model, probably for the 25th anniversary.

Would you pay $15,000 for a PS4? Heck, would you pay over $1,000 for one?
