2K Games announces Borderlands 2 for PlayStation VR

Experience Pandora with an all-new perspective.

It has been nearly four years since we last got a brand-new proper Borderlands game and while it has been said Borderlands 3 is in the works, 2K and Gearbox have something new to tide us over.

Today, 2K Games announced that they’ll be releasing a new version of the critically acclaimed RPG, Borderlands 2, on PlayStation VR later this year. This is a full-scale version of the game meaning it’s Borderlands 2 as you know it with all the wild guns, the crazy action, the fun characters, and more.

“The iconic shooter-looter gets in your face! Virtually immerse yourself in the untamed world of Borderlands. Step into the boots of a treasure-seeking Vault Hunter armed with 87 bazillion guns on a quest to stuff your pockets with loot. Blast bandits with real-world aiming, punch psychos in the face, race across Pandora in stolen bandit vehicles and free Pandora from Handsome Jack’s clutches!” notes the YouTube description of the newly released trailer.

The one exception is that Borderlands 2 VR will NOT include the series’ beloved four-player co-op. Obviously, this is a bummer but a sacrifice that has to be made likely due to technical limitations of a VR game of this scale. Gearbox will be handling the release in-house and even adding new features and skills for the playable characters.

One new feature is “BAMF Time”(BadAss Mega Fun Time), a bullet time-esque mechanic that allows you to slow time to dodge bullets, projectiles, and pull off epic kills like a 360 no-scope headshot as per 2K’s suggestion.

Vehicle combat will also be made more intense due to the immersive first-person element of VR. You’ll be able to race through Pandora, fire guns on your vehicle, and more all through the eyes of your character. It adds a whole new layer to a beloved shooter!

Borderlands 2 VR will launch exclusively on PlayStation VR on December 14th, 2018.
