Thus far, all previous XCOM games have taken place in a near future: secret organizations, alien invaders, and a world working in the shadows. It makes you question how it all started though. Where did the XCOM organization steam from? How has it developed? How long has it been fighting back vs. those pesky aliens? These are the exact questions The Bureau: XCOM Declassified looks to answer.
From the creative standpoint, Alyssa Finley of 2K states that they wanted to take a different approach to this XCOM title — a different point of view which offers backstory and depth. Through the 1960s and different time period all together, players will see the origins of XCOM. After all, aliens don’t get repelled on their own.
From a gameplay standpoint, Finley talks briefly about battle focus. When this is turned on, time slows greatly and you can micromanage your squad easier. The thing about The Bureau: XCOM Declassified is that even though it is a third-person shooter, it is going to keep up with XCOM style difficulty. If you run out guns blaring, you are going to get obliterated. As you’d expect, tactics are king.
