343 Industries has been detailing the tweaks headed to Halo 5: Guardians quite a bit recently. Last week the developers detailed how they would be addressing spawn exploits and how they have done away with the voting/veto system for map selection in multiplayer.
Most of last week had to do with the game's multiplayer aspect, this week, 343 Industries' studio head Josh Holmes got his crew together to talk about the game's campaign on the Xbox Wire. Halo 5 will feature an all-new physically-based rendering system that makes things look more realistic.
One of the advantages of this new system is that it allows even the most alien of items to seem almost 'plausible.'
On top of this new rendering system, 343 Industries has been focused on bringing an amazing gameplay experience to players by locking the game at 60FPS — but not a locked 1080p. Halo 5 has a progressive resolution system that will dynamically scale the resolution back, so that the framerate is uninterrupted.
According to Justin Dinges, the Campaign Environment Art lead, the game won't sacrifice the frame rate for the resolution when the game's action is intense. "In much of the campaign you may be playing at 1080p, but when we want to get really crazy with vehicles, visual effects and combat we can trade some of the resolution in order to maintain the crucial 60fps."
Halo 5: Guardians is set to release on October 27th.
